I bought this because I wanted to wear it on my wrist, like in the pics, but it turned out this thing was too long. It needs to wrap EXACTLY around your wrist if you are thinking it will stay where you wrap it. If you wrist is the right size (whatever that is) then great, if not, don’t be looking for this to be a wrist decoration.
I tried it the other way, as a necklace and it works pretty well that way. You have to wrap it around twice if you don’t want to look like a cheap rapper from the 80’s, but if you do that you can get away with it looking like a “manly” accessory.
The only problem with the double-wrap method is that you can’t deploy it quickly – you literally have to unwrap it to get it off. If you try to slide it off you will just end up ripping your neck skin off. If you have the time and the space, this is fine, but if you are looking for a “seconds-count” kind of defense, this is NOT it. I have a literal neck-whip from another company and it can deploy and be in defense use in less than 2 seconds.
This thing is HEAVY. Again, if you have the time and the space, this can be used to great effect as a defense “chain” style weapon. Add to that the fact that this is long, if you use it the right way you can keep somebody out of striking distance for quite a while and maybe even do some damage in the meantime.
Don’t bother wrapping this around your fingers, unless you want to do as much damage to your hand as to the other guy – in fact, you will probably hurt yourself more.
In the final analysis; if you have the time, the space, and have trained long enough to get it disconnected and off by “feel” (I have learned to do this), this thing will make an excellent defense weapon. It is long enough and heavy enough that if used in the right way you could even keep several attackers at bay for a while.
